Overview:

The Director, Automation Engineering is responsible for development and execution of key automation solutions at Asurion’s Technical Logistic Center and associated locations. This role ensures that current and future automation delivers their designed technical and value solutions. The Director, Automation Engineering will lead a team of Engineers, Technicians and Project Managers to achieve these objectives:

1.     Deliver Automation Vision, Mission & Strategy for fulfillment and logistics operations, develop roadmap to drive current and future business goals and performance in this space.

2.     Lead Operations Automation Research & Development, using internal and external partners to deliver the vision and strategy

3.     Execute Operational Implementation to deliver capability that meets or exceeds all defined metrics and benefit

4.     Performance Management of Global Automation Solutions to meet or exceed business deliverables

5.     Build a High Performing team who can deliver on key objectives and propel Asurion Supply Chain to be an industry leader in the automation space

The Director, Automation Engineering will be the technical subject matter expert at identifying and solutioning operational efficiency opportunities and driving value improvement. They will be responsible for measurement and communication of system performance and collaborating with key partners to ensure automation is achieving desired goals.

The Director, Automation Engineering will lead and develop engineers and technicians to address specific issues and projects related to various automation on-boarding or challenges. This role will be part of a broader team that does research and business cases for future automation opportunities and needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, deploy, and support automation solutions to improve Ops capability and productivity, drive repair device cost reduction, and win client business.
  • Ownership of strategy, research & development, and roadmap for future automation and integration.
  • Responsible for implementation and integration of automated solutions into a production environment.
  • Develop dashboards, monitor KPIs, and address gaps to expected performance.
  • Drive the development and implementation of Asurion process and product enhancements with the vendor including continuous improvement, new implementations, and process evolution.
  • Internal coordination owner for Level 3 support and issue resolution beyond standard maintenance tasks and troubleshooting
  • Provide holistic system knowledge for automations interaction across multiple process owners (IT, Operations, Maintenance, external automation vendors/integrators)
  • Own and manage contractual obligations and SLAs with the vendor including metrics/KPIs, downtime, throughput, and reporting to ensure that all current client commitments are met on time with zero defects.
  • Perform people leader duties to lead a team of engineers and technicians including assigning work, developing skills, insuring projects are completed at the required quantity, quality, and timeliness.
  • Develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships both internally at Asurion and externally with automation vendor/contactors, at appropriate levels
  • Leverage knowledge of Asurion’s products, processes, and client commitments to anticipate and prevent issues caused by changes or interruptions, work with vendor to mitigate risk of disruption.
  • Partner with Data Analytics to drive the development and implementation of all Asurion reporting and analysis efforts for vendor monitoring.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; or equivalent industry experience with alternate degree
  • 10+ years’ experience working with / implementing automated solutions in manufacturing or supply chain environment
  • Ability to develop knowledge of Asurion systems, platforms and processes, and the ability to clearly articulate system or process functionality and capabilities for both internal and external teams
  • Breadth & depth of knowledge to manage implementation of program changes, product enhancements
  • Ability to leverage data appropriately and an understanding of sensitivity surrounding program metrics; solid analytical skills
  • Ability to build consensus cross-functionally to achieve results; strong bias for action
  • Understanding of the legal & regulatory framework of extended warranty products and experience leveraging Asurion’s legal and regulatory groups to manage program operations
  • Ability to present highly complex processes at a managerial level and internal operational meetings
  • Strong relationship management skills; proven ability to influence colleagues from all business functions
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written skills
  • This position requires the ability to read, write, analyze and interpret complex instructions, correspondence, legal documents, financial reports and/or technical documents in English. This position also requires the ability to respond effectively to clients and management and handle sensitive and/or confidential communications. This position requires a high level of skill in both oral and written communication and the ability to effectively present ideas and information
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Office required; proficiency in MS PowerPoint required
  • Minimal domestic and international travel may be required
