Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, Melinda Noblitt was selected for the 2024 Nashville Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 list – a list of young professionals shaping the future of Nashville. Not only is Melinda shaping the future of Nashville, but she’s been instrumental in shaping the future of Asurion, as well.
Melinda’s Asurion story began some six years ago when she joined the company in 2018 as Manager, Employer Brand & Talent Attraction. In 2019, Melinda was nominated for the ATHENA Young Professional Award and was the recipient of Asurion’s 2019 Diversity & Inclusion commUnity Leadership Award. She went on to lead efforts to create a state-certified Software Engineer Apprenticeship for Asurion employees – the first of its kind in Tennessee – that went on to win Nashville Technology Council’s 2021 Diversity Initiative of the Year Award. And, in 2020, Melinda was named a 2020 Emerging Leaders Award (NELA) recipient by the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and YP Nashville.
Fast forward to 2024, nearly six years and five positions later – we could not be happier to have Melinda as Asurion’s Director, Corporate Social responsibility. In addition, Melinda co-hosts the Lipstick Economy Podcast which explores all aspects of marketing to women, sharing stories of leaders who are making a difference through their insight, strategy, diversity, and creative thinking. Melinda serves on the FUTURO Executive Board, Nashville Public Television’s Board of Directors, and on the Advisory Board for Asurion’s LATINX ERG.
While Melinda’s career journey began a few years earlier, it wasn’t until a few days ago that she claims to have had her “full circle moment.” A few nights back along with others, Melinda hosted FUTURO’s Fast Track students, a group of upperclassmen college students preparing for life after school. She spoke to them from her heart.
“I am a granddaughter of immigrants. My parents and grandparents made sacrifices for me to be where I am today. But what good is it if I’m the only one in the room that looks like me?” she told them. As she explained more details about her professional journey, she closed with: “You are the next generation. And I do not want it to be as hard for you. Allow my learnings to be your learnings.”
But it wasn't until Melinda’s three-year-old daughter came to visit the Asurion Gulch Hub. Having been to “mommy’s office” plenty of times before, her daughter walked through our corporate headquarters and into the FUTURO meeting with an affluent sense of confidence, and comfortability, and with her head held high. “I grew up with Chicago skyscrapers, wondering what it was like to be inside of one.” Seeing her daughter and the FUTURO college students sitting at the tablea where countless meetings are held by various levels of professionals, she was flooded with emotion. She told the students, “You deserve to be here. And I want you [all] to envision yourselves being here, just as much as I want that for my daughter.”
In a final thought, Melinda shared that no matter the odds, or the series of circumstances that come one's way – it is possible for you to be here. “I want to be an example [for] you, know that we are similar. It’s ok to be scared. But do it anyway. You are not at the mercy of the cards you were dealt. You can be in control of your future, [and] you deserve a seat at this table just like everyone else does.”
If you’ve made it this far then you’ve seen the magnitude of reasons why Melinda was named in the Nashville Business Journal’s 2024 40 Under 40. She has dedicated her life to creating pathways and opening doors for young professionals surrounding Nashville, and we’re grateful to have her as part of our Asurion Team.
Please join us in congratulating Melinda.
